Last Week’s Shoot – River Reflections

Reflected Branches and Sky

Last week I had another walk along part of the River Nidd that I haven’t explored with a camera for a while. The forecast had been for overcast weather, but the sky was blue when I left so I wasn’t sure how well reflections in the river would work…

By the time I got to the riverside a few white clouds were  moving over and the watery winter sunlight wasn’t too harsh so the reflections in the water worked quite well, with a light breeze adding ripples to the surface of the river from time to time.

Slightly longer exposures produced an even more pleasing result, with the reflection of softly lit spindly tree trunks more clearly defined against the blue sky and white cloud.

The soft light combined with reflections of larger patches of blue sky produced some quite colourful images…

Most of the images used parallel vertical tree trunks but overhanging unlit branches on the near bank made the images a little more complex and abstract…

Overall I was quite pleased with the results, which required very minimal processing, and I picked the last three shots here for my collection on Fine Art America.
